Islington’s only watersports provider needs to raise £4,000 for a new minibus so it can continue to reach vulnerable and disabled people in the borough.

Islington Boat Club launched a crowdfunder on Sunday in the hope of bringing in the last bit of money it needs to pay for the £24,000 bus to replace the existing one, which is 15 years old and “literally falling apart”.

The Variety Club of Great Britain has donated £12,000, The Bernard Sunley Foundation has handed over £5,000 and a private donor gave £3,000.

The grassroots club, which offers activities to young people at risk of offending as well as older people and those with disabilities, needs the bus to pick up members with transport issues.

Coordinator Sarah Corcoran said: “A lot of older people might not want to come on their own the first time, so getting them through the door as a group is great.”
