She said: “As I was recovering, the murders on the streets were getting closer and closer to home and I thought I can’t just sit here any longer, I’ve got to do something.”

Her response was to set about designing and publishing her “Let’s get talking” discussion cards to get young people talking about issues affecting their lives such as addiction, depression and knife crime.

She said: “It’s important because young people now are all mixed up and plugged in, they live their lives through computer screens,

“They’re just not talking to each other.”

Her company, EGAR (Educational Games and Resources) in Shepperton Road, produces a variety of discussion cards for youth clubs, schools, prisons and community centres across Islington and Camden.

If Sue is selected to be one of the eight winning mums at the red-carpet final ceremony next year, she will get a makeover and photo shoot for Tesco Magazine.

She added: “I’m absolutely delighted to have got this far as I’m really proud of what we’re doing. I’ve got the magic twist that can get young people opening up to each other and feeling empowered.”
