Members of the Islington Choral Society are travelling to Italy to perform in world-famous Basilica San Francesco in Assisi, a world heritage site.

Established 41-years-ago, the choir, which rehearses in Highbury Baptist Church, will travel to Perugia at the beginning of May.

They will give their first concert in the Basilica of the Collevalenza Sanctuary on May 3 before heading to Assisi - the city where St Francis was born and died.

The Basilica San Francesco is considered one of an important places of Christian pilgrimage in Italy and became UNESCO world heritage site in 2000.

Last year the choir, which has 150 members, visited Hungary and received standing ovations for their performances at two concerts in Budapest.
