A budding choir get into voice ahead of one of their biggest shows yet – at the St Mary Magdalene Academy tonight (Thursday).

The group, founded by Islington Council employees 18 months ago, has done just seven concerts to date. At the school in Liverpool Road, Islington, they will perform a variety of pieces, many on the themes of the First and Second World Wars.

Council chorister Heidi Rossetter, 40, who works in learning and development, said she was feeling “a bit nervous”. She added: “We’ve got a final rehearsal on Wednesday. We’ve taken more of a chance this time – we’re doing the whole second half without sheet music.

“But we’re more or less ready.”
