Counting of votes cast in Islington’s local election has begun at Sobell Leisure Centre in Holloway Road.

A total of 48 seats are up for grabs on the council, with results expected later today.

Labour is thought to be in a strong position. Councillor Paul Convery said he was confident the party had secured a number of seats.

The biggest upset is likely to be in Highbury East where there is speculation that the Lib Dems may lose seats to the Green Party or Labour.
