Bunhill ward’s Cllr Troy Gallagher has been elected as the chairman of the London Irish Councillors Network.

Cllr Gallagher replaces Croydon’s Cllr Gerry Ryan as chairman of the group which looks to tackle issues faced by Irish Londoners.

“I am delighted to have been elected by my fellow councillors to this important role,” said Cllr Gallagher.

“The Irish community has been at the heart of London for generations, but sometimes the challenges the community faces are not given the attention they deserve.

“I will be working with councillors from across London to make sure that the Irish community has a strong voice in our capital.”

The Network looks at various issues facing the Irish community in London, including assisting vulnerable members of the Irish community, situations facing Irish Traveller communities, the work of the Federation of Irish Societies, influencing national political discussions via lobbying work, the impact of Census updates, and the work of the Irish Centre.
