Legendary drama teacher Anna Scher does the honours to celebrate 44 years of schooling Islington’s young thespians.

She marked the milestone at her theatre school in St Silas Church, in Penton Street, Islington, on Friday – just weeks after being honoured at the Women in Film and Television awards for her work.

She started the school in 1968 and counts many TV stars among her ex-pupils, such as actresses Linda Robson and Pauline Quirke and comedian Kathy Burke.

Ms Scher, of Matilda Street, Barnsbury, said: “It was a lovely evening and I hope to be running the school for many years.

“I’m not ready to put away the tap shoes yet.”
