Crew members at Islington Fire Station raised £316 for a “wonderful” cause by hosting a charity car wash.

The money raised on Saturday has been donated to The Fire Fighters Charity, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year and was formed during the Blitz.

Becky Cooper, a firefighter who joined Islington blue watch six months ago, arranged the event and also raised £575 by doing a charity bike ride last month.

She told the Gazette: “We had amazing effort and the whole watch got involved so I just want to say thank you to everyone.”

Becky added: “The day was pretty successful and we received some generous donations, which was really nice.”

On why she chose to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity, Becky said: “If we need assistance then it’s something we can lean on and it’s also important to facilitate good things for the benefit of others.”

Emma Beattie, watch manager at Islington Fire Station, added: “We are all really proud of the work Becky’s been doing.”
