Tributes are being paid to fallen soldiers in Islington this morning.

Police will close Upper Street as an expected 1,000 people march from Highbury Corner at 10am to the town hall in the annual Remembrance Day parade.

A ceremony will take place at Islington Green before a two minutes silence at 11am. The war memorial is currently off limits due to emergency repair work so wreaths will have to be laid against the fencing surrounding the structure.

Islington Mayor Cllr Barry Edwards will be joined by Cllr Richard Watts, leader of the council, leader of the opposition Cllr Terry Stacy and chief executive Lesley Seary, along with veterans’ groups, will all take part in proceedings.
