The long-awaited return of social housing stock to Islington Council control officially took place on Monday.
Since 2004, council housing has been managed by Home for Islington (HfI) – an arms length management organisation. Despite spending 600million on refurbishing 18,000 properties, HfI has received widespread criticism.
It is hoped the move will save up to 2 million a year by reducing the layer of management, ploughed into repairs and building new homes.
