Anyone who works the nine-to-five grind often considers leaving it all behind to follow their wildest dreams.

Canonbury-based Jess Indeedy made this a reality – and took a quirkier route than most who make the leap.

She succeeded in escaping the world of advertising by inventing a musical form of bingo.

The American promoter, who refuses to divulge her real name or age, said: “We were asked to DJ at an event in Camden and began thinking of the idea. It’s a great night out, and as a singer, I love being on the mic and running the show.”

Musical Bingo with Jess Indeedy started as a hobby in 2007, but Jess soon found she couldn’t juggle both her work and bingo commitments.

She added: “I was finding that we were getting more and more bookings, but I just didn’t have enough holiday to be able to do all of them.

“I was just doing it as a hobby, but began to think of doing it as a living because I really believed in it and I’ve never looked back.”

Since leaving the office world behind in 2009, her range of innovative events has gone from strength to strength.

She hosts Musical Bingo at trendy venues such as Drink, Shop and Do in Caledonian Road, King’s Cross, as well as her recently launched Lunchtime Disco bashes, often packed to the rafters with midday revellers.

She said: “I wasn’t sure if it was going to work out because it was such an avant-garde idea, but I gambled on it and it paid off.”

One aspect of her business she is most proud of is the work done for charity. She and her partner, DJ Helix, have raised thousands of pounds for good causes, including Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Rhys Daniels Trust, by hosting special bingo nights where all proceed are handed over.

Jess said: “I feel very fortunate to make a living doing this and I’m in a place where I’m able to give back. I believe that anyone who has a business that’s doing really well and with the power to be able to give their money and time to charity should do it.”

Her next idea is the I Love Lists parties, where anyone who loves making lists is welcome to attend. “I take the top 10 things that people would change about their area and take a picture of that list and tweet it to the mayor,” she said.

“It’s a great thing. How often can you get people of all different backgrounds in one place to discuss what they think about their area in a truthful way?”

The next Lunchtime Disco is on Friday at Drink, Shop and Do from noon, and there is also an American Independence Day Spectacular at Floripa in Old Street at 8pm on July 4.
