CHRISTMAS trees can be recycled this year as Islington Council urges residents to make theirs a greener Christmas.

There will be tree collections from street properties and estates, and dumping zones in four parks.

Unwanted electrical items can be taken to the council’s Bright Sparks shop in Seven Sisters Road, Finsbury Park, while other recyclable waste, including Christmas cards and wrapping paper, will be collected as normal.

From January 3-16, trees can be left at sites in the four parks, King Square, in Finsbury, Rosemary Gardens, in Islington, Elthorne Park, in Archway, and Barnard Park, in Barnsbury. For details of tree collections on estates, please contact your nearest area housing office.

Councillor Paul Smith, Islington Council’s executive member for environment, said: “We want to make recycling as easy as possible, so we’ve laid on extra services to help get rid of all the old trees.

“We’ve also got ways of recycling everything from empty bottles and paper to old electrical goods that might have been replaced at Christmas.”
