Islington’s brilliant talking newspaper for blind and partially sighted people celebrated another successful year at its Christmas party last week.

Talking News Islington, which makes monthly audio news recordings using Gazette articles, formed 10 years ago and has released over 100 editions.

Last Monday, 40 listeners and volunteers came to the party at Islington Outlook Centre in St John’s Way, where the free CDs are recorded.

Founder Elizabeth Jones said: “It’s such a small room so it was very crowded. It was a complete mess afterwards!

“It’s been a very good year for us, although we could do with a few more listeners. We need to find where the isolated people are. If people send their details to us, we can put them on our database and send CDs out.

“That was the whole reason why I started Talking News Islington when I lost my sight, so I could find out what was going on in Islington.

“Volunteers would also be welcome. I’m 89 and could use the help!”
