Town hall employees from across the globe come together for special day

There was a distinctly international flavour on Monday as staff from all over the world gathered on the town hall steps.

To celebrate Commonwealth Day, the Mayor of Islington, Cllr Theresa Debono, who is originally from Malta, joined Islington Council employees from other Commonwealth nations like Australia, Nigeria, Pakistan, South Africa, and of course the UK, to raise the Commonwealth flag over the town hall.

She said:“Raising the flag over is an excellent opportunity to celebrate Islington’s diverse community brought together by the Commonwealth.”

Commonwealth Day is the annual celebration of the Commonwealth of Nations held on the second Monday in March. While it has a certain official status, Commonwealth Day is not a public holiday in most countries.
