Sonia Lukaj, 17, was one of 20 young designers to reach the finals at the Freemason’s Hall, in Queen Street.

The event was organised by award-winning charity FAD – and Sonia was competing in the 16 to 22 age group category.

Speaking after the event, she said: “I learnt how to be inspired by simple things and recreate them into different objects, as well as how to make patterns and sew.”

Vanessa Spence, design director at ASOS, said: “28 [of our] designers have volunteered in the FAD fashion futures programme, and they are all amazed with the level of quality and creativity.

“Fashion is changing, the world is becoming more diverse; the young generation has a lot to say.”

Over the past 20 years FAD has worked with over 2,000 volunteers to offer opportunities and skills-training to 9,600 young people.
