One Islington boy is looking to follow in the footsteps of Mo Farah as he lines up in the Mini London Marathon ahead of the main event.

Tremayne Halsey, 13, will represent the borough as part of a 48-strong team which will compete with about 2,000 runners in the youth version of the famous race.

Though there is no requirement on youngsters to raise money in the event, Tremayne is running in aid of a children’s hospice.

Tremayne’s father, Robert Halsey, from St John’s Villas, Upper Holloway, said: “My son and I always go running in Finsbury Park together. I think he is a bit daunted by the Mini Marathon as he is not a natural runner. He runs because he enjoys it and does it for fun. He is going about this race in a way that an adult would.

“He has been involved in raising money for charity previously, so he thought he would combine the two.”

Tremayne will be running for Naomi House Children’s Hospice in Hampshire, which provides support to children and young people with life-limiting conditions from across central southern England.

He has so far raised more than £100 for his cause through fundraising with family and friends.
