Islington transport chiefs welcomes delay in Overground ticket office closure report

The closure of ticket offices at Overground stations has been put on hold after being met with a huge backlash.
Watchdog London TravelWatch was forced to postpone its “interim report” on the consultation results so it had more time to analyse the almost 6,500 responses.
The move would see Canonbury and Caledonian Road & Barnsbury stations lose their ticket offices and has sparked outrage from commuters and councillors who fear it will impact vulnerable passengers.
A city-wide consultation on the 51 closures received 3,400 responses through the online questionnaire, 959 emails, 2,063 postcard responses and 31 hand-written submissions.
Islington’s transport chief Cllr Claudia Webbe has welcomed the delay. She said: “There’s been a massive response to the consultation, including my letter on behalf of Islington Council, and I hope the voices of local people who are concerned about the proposals will be heard.
“I am concerned the proposed closures of ticket offices in Islington will have a negative impact on disabled, elderly and other more vulnerable people.”
