Love doctor Cate Mackenzie has been teaching singletons the art of romance in her energetic workshops at the The Joker of Penton Street pub.

The psychosexual therapist and couples counsellor has run workshops in six countries around the world - and thinks Islington is the perfect place in the UK to shoot Cupid’s arrow.

“Islington has many cafes and places to meet and walk about and is a perfect place for day or evening adventures to flirt,” says Cate, who claims Islington has the highest number of single people than any other borough in London.

“For example, I think Candid Cafe [in Torrens Street, Islington] is so sumptuous and a perfect place to feel like a god or goddess of flirting.”

Baffled?

Well, Cate’s workshops run for two hours and she teaches her top tips for having fun, letting go of the past and commitment - which she says is one of the biggest challenges for her clients.

“A few years ago I gave myself a month off to have total fun and went to three festivals on the trot.

“When I came back to London I continued my fun.

“I met a lovely man on a day adventure and asked him if he would like to join me. He did and we are now married.”

There are no guarantees that Cate can be everyone’s love guru, although she has had many successes.

“People regularly write to me or come to talks sometimes with a boyfriend or husband, saying that I helped them believe in love and I get messages from people who are married with children.

“It’s a lovely part of the job.”

Cate’s monthly workshops will start up again in autumn at The Joker of Penton Street. For now though, she thinks it’s time to focus on the fun.

“What fun would you like? Make a list and start to do it...”
