It's a litter scandal

I AM writing to let you know of the absolutely disgusting litter situation that the hard working, Council Tax-paying residents of Fonthill Road, Finsbury Park, are currently being made to endure.

The piles of bags containing food and general litter, pile up day after day all along the road waiting for collection.

According to the Islington Council website, this collection should take place every day - Monday to Saturday. This, however, is not the case, and we are lucky if our refuse gets picked up once a week.

Given that I live in a ground-floor flat, I not only have to endure the stench of the rotting refuse bags which are placed there by all the tenants in my block of flats, plus the two blocks next door every time I enter my door.

I have also become accustomed to hopping over these maggot- filled things every time I want to enter or leave my home, but I also cannot open the windows of my lounge, as to do so would be to fill the entire room with a massive stench of rotting food.

I spent 18 years of my life living in Harare, Zimbabwe, a country classified by the UN as having one of the worst living standards in the world.

However, while living there, my litter was collected on time, every time, according to the council timetable - and, what's more, the broke Harare city council provided my home with bags and bins to put our rubbish in. This is something I firmly believe that Islington Council should do, for hygiene's sake.

But I suppose the council has no more money left to do this given that it has printed so many colourful "newsletters".

Considering I am now living in London, the capital of a first world country, I am disgusted by this situation.

I pay my Council Tax, but I am still forced to live surrounded by rotting food, flies and foxes?
