A Woodford Green rapist who targeted a woman sleeping in the bedroom of her boyfriend’s Haringey home has been jailed for eight years.

José Sepulvida-Gomez, 27, of Prospect Road, was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment today (August 1) at Blackfriars Crown Court.

He was found guilty at the same court of sexual assault by penetration and two counts of sexual assault, following a five-day trial, on June 22.

The victim, a woman in her 30s, attended a house party near Finsbury Park on the evening of August 30, 2016.

She went to bed and fell asleep facing the wall at around 1am and, having stayed at the address multiple times, she believed it a safe place to stay.

At around 2am she was woken up by a man she initially believed was her boyfriend.

But she soon realised, upon turning around, that she was being sexually assaulted by Sepulvida-Gomez.

She reported the incident to police the following day.

PC Susanna Marri, of the Met’s child abuse and sexual offences command, said: “Jose Sepulvida-Gomez is an individual who preyed on a vulnerable woman when she was asleep in her boyfriend’s bed in a place where she felt safe.

“She had to relive the ordeal by giving evidence at court.

“I would like to praise the courage of the victim in giving evidence against this man.

“I would like to also encourage anyone who has been the victim of sexual assault to tell someone you trust or inform the police.”
