Hundreds of people celebrated the opening of a new community centre, as well as 23 new council homes, in Crouch Hill on Saturday.
The Brickworks centre has a cafe, meeting rooms, kitchens, a sports hall, children’s play spaces, a nursery, therapy rooms, offices for community groups, a roof garden and a music room.
Meanwhile, the 23 new council homes will house 80 people. All of them are at social rent.
Brickworks will be run by Hanley Crouch Community Association. Islington North MP and Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, who is a trustee of the group, said: “I am absolutely delighted the vision of building a new community centre with council housing attached has actually come to fruition.
“The beautiful new building will be the opportunity for everyone in our area to use it, enjoy it and for the young and old to achieve their best together.
“I also give a special thank you to Colin Adams, centre manager of Hanley Crouch Association, for his excellent leadership of the centre and commitment to the local community.”
Islington Council housing leader Cllr Diarmaid Ward said: “London is facing a housing crisis of staggering proportions, and Islington Council is doing everything it can to help residents into safe, genuinely affordable homes.
