Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn today drove a train that will soon serve his constituency on the Barking to Gospel Oak line – which he fought to save.
The Islington North MP was visiting the Bombardier train factory in Derby to highlight Labour’s Build it In Britain campaign.
The trains will be on the newly-electrified line in November, more than a year later than expected.
Mr Corbyn said: “I was proud to work with the Barking to Gospel Oak Campaign to stop the line from being closed under the Tories and equally proud to see it electrified.
“I was delighted and surprised to be given the opportunity to drive one of the new trains that will run on the route. It was quiet, clean, electric and also very responsive to drive. This has created jobs and will provide a better, cleaner and quieter service for the people of North London. That’s what I call a result!”
