His comments come after council planners rejected proposals to turn the dormant boozer into a wine bar with a nursery tacked-on.
The pub has been closed since 2014, when it briefly become The Intrepid Fox, but now the Labour leader and Islington North MP has backed the campaign to reopen the venue.
Mr Corbyn told the Gazette: “It’s very disappointing that the Archway Tavern is not reopening in some form as the development.”
He added the nearby square and market are both “lovely” and suggested reopening the pub make would “help make the area lively all the time”.
Mr Corbyn is just the latest voice to call for the pub to reopen, after Islington’s community development chief Cllr Kaya Comer-Schwartz and freeholders Enterprise Inns,which told leaseholder Dr Imitiaz Sardar the pub had been shut for too long and he must reopen it.
