Politicians and dignitaries across Islington are urging people to take part in a demonstration against fascism and racism taking place on Saturday.
All of the borough’s councillors, MP Emily Thornberry, London Assembly member Jennette Arnold and leaders of faith groups across Islington have signed an anti-hate crime letter sent to the Gazette this week.
It states: “One of Islington’s greatest strengths is its diversity. Our borough is no place for hate, and we stand united together against any form or racism, discrimination or oppression in Islington and in society.
“Sadly, we know hate crime continues to be a serious problem, as was so clearly demonstrated when far-right terrorism was brought to the streets of Finsbury Park in June 2017.
“We are urging local people to join the National Unity Demonstration Against Fascism and Racism taking place on Saturday.”
The march starts at 12pm at the Leicester Square Hotel.
