Islington’s new mayor was sworn in last night. Cllr Dave Poyser will use his one year term to raise cash for two worthy Islington charities: homeless shelter CARIS Islington and Holloway’s Freightliners Farm.
Cllr Poyser, who has been an Islington councillor for the Hillrise ward since 2014, takes the mayoral chains from the popular Cllr Una O’Halloran. His deputy will be Cllr Rakhhia Ismail.
Cllr Poyser said money raised for CARIS will fund travel for job interviews, and a packed lunch. Cash for 40-year-old Freightliners, in Sheringham Road, will contribute to its ongoing campaign to fund running costs.
Of the year ahead, Cllr Poyser said: “I have loved Islington and its creative atmosphere since I first drifted into the borough back in 1979. It has a huge social and ethnic mix and I want to do all I can as mayor to continue its tradition of acting as a single community.
“As deputy mayor for the last year, I have seen all the good done by Islington’s many excellent charities that help give us our wonderful sense of community.”
