House of Commons Speaker John Bercow dropped by at City University London last night to officially open two new clinics.
The Finsbury university, in Northampton Square, will use the clinics to deliver healthcare and training.
The Roberta Williams Speech and Language Therapy Centre will offer services for people with conditions such as stammering, or for those with special educational needs and children and adults with deafness.
It was named after Prof Roberta Williams, who died last year having worked at as a speech and language therapist at City University for more than 30 years.
Another, called City Sight, will deliver eye care services to the public and businesses.
Prof Stanton Newman, dean of the School of Health Sciences at City University London, said: “These new clinics are a major advancement of the school’s activities in delivery of care, research and education.
“It is a place where patients, students and academics can come and benefit from our excellent research and innovation.”
