Huge government cuts will be the topic as the public get the chance to grill the town hall chiefs.

Cllr Richard Watts, leader of Islington Council, and Cllr Andy Hull, Islington Council’s executive member for finance, are hosting a series of drop-in sessions where residents can ask questions about the tough choices the borough faces in the future.

By 2016, the Government will have cut town hall funding in half since 2010 – the council has saved £112m over the last four years and expects to have to save another £95m by 2018.

The sessions are being held in the both the day time and evenings at schools, leisure and shopping centres, a library and council offices.

Cllr Watts said: “Islington faces huge government cuts and has tough choices to make on local services, especially as demand rises for many services.

“We’re already doing a lot of work to find savings for next year and beyond, but there is more work to be done on how to make the expected £95 million by 2018.

“We want to hear residents’ views and ideas about what services are most important to them, and how savings can be made, and we look forward to meeting with local people over the coming weeks.”
