The Prime Minister launched an “all-out assault on poverty” in Islington today.

Fresh from being called “a pie” by a hacker on Jeremy Corbyn’s official Twitter account last night, David Cameron entered his rival’s territory to launch a social reform package at the headquarters of the Family Action charity, off City Road.

Mr Cameron met parents and children at one of the charity’s regular pre-natal sessions. He then delievered a speech in which he launched a campaign to encourage high-flying mentors to pass on thier experiences to youngsters at risk of dropping out of school.

He also defended controversial education reforms, outlined proposals to encourage saving and signalled plans to tear down “brutal” housing estates which had become hotbeds of crime.

However, his visit wasn’t welcomed by Cllr Richard Watts, the leader of Islington Council.

He tweeted: “The PM is coming to Islington to make his speech on housing. We’re exactly the kind of mixed community his Housing Bill aims to destroy.”
