Jeremy Corbyn and Finsbury Park Mosque chairman Mohammed Kozbar have supported this afternoon’s London protests against Donald Trump’s visit to the UK.

Mr Corbyn, the Labour Party leader and veteran Islington North MP, told the Gazette this morning: “We need to assert the values of our community and the inclusive way our society works.

“We are not anti-muslim in any way and we also need to remind President Trump that the Paris Climate Change agreement is very important for protecting our planet.”

Mr Corbyn added: “His treatment of Mexican children has been disgraceful.”

Mohammed Kozbar, chairman of Finsbury Park Mosque in St Thomas’s Road, said: “We are encouraging people to go there and pray there and then join the demo.

“It’s quite important for us to participate and make sure we have our voices heard by the government and Trump himself.”

When asked if he had a message for President Trump, Mr Kozbar said: “Arrogance is not the solution – the answer is to spread loved instead of hate.

“As a leader he should spread love among people and try to unite them rather then divide them.”

Mr Kozbar is encouraging Muslims to attend Friday prayers near Oxford Circus station, so that they can then assemble with the “Stop Trump” protest.

The outdoor Jumma will take place in Cavendish Square Gardens at 2.30pm and is coordinated with the “#DUMPTRUMP” campaign.

The prayer will be led by Dr Anas Altikriti, chairman of the Muslim Association of Britain, before worshippers are encouraged to assemble at the BBC’s Broadcasting House, in Portland Place, at 3pm ahead of the march.

Organisers have dubbed this afternoons as a “carnival of resistance”, with about 70,000 people expected to take to the streets against Mr Trump’s visit.
