The head of Islington’s legal services – the department blamed for a major data leak that put residents’ details in the hands of hooligans – is to leave her post.
Louise Round, director of corporate resources, which includes legal services, is to leave Islington Council in the spring.
In an email to staff, she said her post will be deleted in a bid to make savings.
She said: “This has been a difficult decision to make as I have been at Islington for over 11 years and have really loved my time here.
“With your support, energy and commitment we have delivered some excellent services and I will leave feeling enormously proud of what we have achieved together.”
In May, it emerged that the legal team had accidentally handed the details of 51 residents to 10 youths causing trouble on the Andover Estate, off Hornsey Road, Holloway. A second data blunder came to light in July, which saw the details of more than 2,000 residents – including their sexual orientations – published online.
The leader of the Lib Dem opposition, Cllr Terry Stacey, accused the council’s Labour leadership of “sacrificing” Ms Round over the data leaks, but Cllr Paul Convery dismissed the claims as “absolute nonsense”.
