Islington Council has been denied the right to challenge a tribunal’s ruling that it blew 1million by overpaying on housing improvements.
The town hall was refused permission to appeal the Leaseholder Valuation Tribunal (LVT) judgement that it was over-charged by 1million for work on two blocks on the Tremlett Grove estate, in Archway.
It means the council will have to cut charges to the 14 leaseholders affected by 225,000, or about 16,000 each.
Judy Granville, 61, one of the leaseholders who brought the action, said: “In my opinion, the request to appeal was very flimsy. If this means it’s the end of the saga, then I’m delighted.”
The council could yet appeal to the Lands Tribunal.
