Do you know an Islingtonian who died more than a year ago and who you think should be honoured for their services to our borough?
Now is your chance to let Islington Council know, after nominations opened for its 2016/17 people’s plaque scheme.
Past plaque winners include Nina Bawden, author of Carrie’s War, and Mary Tealby, founder of what is now Battersea Cats and Dogs Home.
A nominated person must have a connection to Islington by birth, work or residency; genuinely contributed to human welfare and happiness; are reasonably well known; a strong association with the proposed building nominated for erection of the plaque; and died more than a year ago.
Places and events can also qualify. Nominations close on June 30 and a selection panel will agree a shortlist by autumn. This will go to a public vote, and the three nominations with the most votes will receive a plaque next year.
