THE distinguished elderly author of A History Of Islington has expressed her thanks to the many people who offer her a helping hand on public transport. I want to add my warm thanks to hers.

I am constantly amazed by and grateful to the many people who leap up to give me a much-appreciated seat on crowded buses and tubes.

Other observant and considerate people offer to carry my shopping or open doors for me.

It’s specially heart-warming when a smile accompanies such readiness to help the elderly!

These gracious people include old and young men and women of all skin colours. They make this harsh world a kindlier place. – Angela Sinclair-Loutit, via e-mail.
