Cops were called to the junction of Clifton Terrace and Lennox Road at about 7.30pm yesterday, amid reports of a man brandishing a knife.

Officers found a 30-year-old man at the scene – who witnesses described as having torn jeans – and they searched him in their van.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and found man suffering a stab injury to his buttock.

“He was taken to an east London hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening.”

The Gazette understands he may have been carrying the blade in his back pocket, and stabbed himself while running away.

No arrests have been made, no knife was recovered and enquiries continue.

One bystander, who refused to give his name but lives on Lennox Terrace, said: “I just heard there had been an altercation and then saw a dude in the ambulance getting strip searched.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police via 101 quoting CAD 7081/08NOV or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
