A man has been charged with murder following the death of a blind imam at a Finsbury Park muslim centre on Friday.

Ziani Aissa, 24, of no fixed abode was charged yesterday (Sunday) with the murder of the 39-year old man named locally as Sheikh Maymoun Zarzour who was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident at the Muslim Welfare House in Seven Sisters Road at around 10.30am.

He will appear in custody at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court today.

No motive has been established but police have said that the death is not thought to be related to race or faith hate crime at this stage.

Mourners paid tribute to the imam at a memorial service held at Holloway School in Hilldrop Road, Holloway, on Saturday.
