A man was killed when fire tore through his flat on Thursday evening.

The blaze in the third floor property off Brecknock Road, Tufnell Park, broke out just before 9.30pm and around 20 firefighters spent more than an hour battling the flames.

The victim, thought to be in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The blaze, the cause of which is being investigated, was under control by 11am.

A police spokesman said: “At this stage the fire and death are being treated as not suspicious.”
