A MAN has died after fire ripped through a terraced house converted into flats on Saturday night.

Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to the blaze in Penn Road, Holloway, at 12.25am on Sunday.

A woman was rescued from the second floor and a man was rescued from the third floor, but another man was found dead in the second floor flat.

The two injured people were taken to hospital suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.

Fire-fighters brought the blaze under control tow hours later and were at the scene all night damping down the smouldering rooms.

A police officer stood guard outside the building throughout the night and the following day as the fire brigade sent in a specialist investigation team.

Half of the second floor and part of the third floor and roof was damaged by the blaze.

Fire crews from Holloway and Kentish Town stations attended the blaze.
