A man who died after being dragged along by a car in Islington has been named.

Oliver Farrell, 27, had been leaning through the passenger side window of a black Vauxhall Zafira, on Essex Road, having a conversation with its driver when the vehicle drove off.

After being dragged along for around 100 yards Mr Farrell lost his grip and fell to the ground, suffering a serious head injury.

Officers were called to the scene, at the junction of Ockendon Road, at 1.55am on Sunday (November 16) where Mr Farrell was treated by the London Ambulance Service.

He was taken to an east London hospital where he died yesterday (November 20).

Mr Farrell who is originally from Derbyshire was living near the Finsbury Park area and worked as a Senior Consultant for JAM Recruitment in St Andrew Street, Central London.

A post-mortem examination took place at Poplar Mortuary today. The cause of death was given as head injuries. An inquest will be held at Poplar Coroners Court tomorrow.

A police spokesperson said: “The driver of the car did not stop at the scene but was subsequently arrested in connection with the incident after attending a north London police station.

“The 57-year-old has since been bailed pending further enquiries to a date in early January.”

Enquiries continue, led by officers from the north-west London Road Death Investigation Unit.
