A STAB victim had to be dragged inside a 24-hour shop by heroic members of staff trying to protect him from a crazed gang.

The 26-year-old was hauled into Costcutter, in Junction Road, Archway, for his own safety after he was attacked with a broken bottle at 4.45am on Saturday.

He escaped serious injury but was left with a deep cut to his upper arm, while his 27-year-old friend sustained grazing to his knee and bruising to his back and arms.

The victims had been on a night out in Old Street and had stopped at Costcutter for refreshments when they became involved in a brawl with four men.

Yasar Khan, who works at the shop, said: “It kicked off inside the shop and one of the attackers had a bottle on him. The fight moved out onto the street and that’s when the man got stabbed. The two guys who were working that night pulled him inside and locked the door.

“There was a guy still trying to stab him with a bottle. He smashed the bottle against the door and the glass broke, but they went before police arrived.”

Both victims were taken to The Whittington Hospital for treatment. One of the attackers was white, 5ft 10ins tall and stocky with dark hair.

Another was white, 6ft tall, and slim with short brown hair. He wore blue jeans and a blue T-shirt, which he took off and tied around his head during the fight.

Witnesses should call Police Constable Paul Phillips from Islington CID on 020 7421 0162 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
