Deputy mayor Cllr Rakhia Ismail cut the ribbon on Saturday to open the Barnsbury park, which now boasts a brand new panna football court, basketball hoop a and children’s play area.

The redesign follows a period of consultation with park users – and the space was completely overhauled over 12 weeks earlier this year.

Islington’s environment boss Cllr Claudia Webbe said: “Milner Square Gardens is now a jewel in Islington’s crown.

“The clever redesign has created a welcoming space that balances nature, family-friendly facilities and options to get active in the fresh air.

“It’s clear that the new park is already a well-loved focal point for people of all ages, and I’m sure that will continue for generations to come.”

The old park-keeper’s hut has also been restored, and new planting around the perimeter of the park aims to encourage wildlife and give the space a woodland feel.
