The owner of a much-loved organic food store has vowed it will still be standing in 30 years time - despite losing a long-running battle over its premises.

Bumblebee Natural Foods - which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2010 - is set to be kicked out of one of its three shops in Brecknock Road, Holloway, after Islington Council approved the landlord’s plan to redevelop the building on Tuesday. The shop contains its kitchen.

It had been feared the proposal would devastate the business - because the kitchen is crucial to its busy lunchtime trade - but a huge community campaign supported by councillors, neighbouring businesses and hundreds of residents could do nothing to block the plans.

However, owner and founder Iain Ogilvie said: “The business will continue to thrive and will carry on for the next 30 years.

“The writing was on the wall, but we put up a good fight and we would like to thank everybody for their support. We will have to rejig the other shops a little bit, but we well continue to be there.”
