A murder investigation has been launched after a woman died seven weeks on from being injured in a fire in Islington.

Emergency services were called in the early hours of July 5 at 2.50am to a fire in a flat at Noll House, Corker Walk, in Finsbury Park.

A 43-year-old woman had suffered serious burns and was taken to a north London hospital before being transferred to a specialist burns hospital.

Despite the best efforts of medics, she died from the injuries on Tuesday.

Her next of kin are aware, and formal identification and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

Four children were also taken to hospital as a precaution at the time, but were not seriously injured.

Abdi Quule, 42, of Noll House, Corker Walk, was found at the scene and also treated for burns at hospital.

After treatment, he was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and charged on August 4, appearing in custody at Highbury Magistrates’ Court the same day.

He was remanded in custody to appear on at the Old Bailey next Thursday.

The investigation is currently led by officers from the central north command unit but the Met’s murder squad has been made aware.

Police enquiries continue.
