A family woodland event took place this weekend in Barnsbury Wood - the capital's smallest local nature reserve.

The fun day on Saturday was part of London National Park City Week, the mayor of London’s bid to designate London a national park by next year.

About 80 people turned up to the woodland in Crescent Street to take part in arts and crafts and nature exploration.

Most of the people were local families who had never been to the greenspace before, some of whom didn’t even know it existed.

Islington Council’s deputy leader Cllr Janet Burgess, said: “Barnsbury Wood is one of Islington’s hidden gems and we were delighted to welcome residents to our smallest nature reserve for National Park City Week, especially as so many people were visiting for the first time.

“Barnsbury Wood truly is a little oasis of nature in the heart of our busy city.”
