Traders bidding to pull Christmas shoppers away from Oxford Street and back to independent stores have teamed up to offer a week of festive deals.

Discounts on everything from vintage children’s bikes, fancy foods and chocolate treats will be available at shops in Newington Green this week until Thursday, December 7, as the Newington Green Traders Association does battle with high street retailers and online delivery services. Pubs, restaurants and cafes will be offering discount bookings.

Businesses taking part include kids’ clothing shop Three Potato Four, Italian eaterie Trattoria Sapori and vintage furniture seller The Peanut Vendor.

Meanwhile, the Newington Green Action Group will host carol singing in the green tomorrow (Tuesday) at 5pm.
