Rolling Stone legend Ronnie Wood stumped up the cash for an exhibition about tragic stab victim Ben Kinsella - but the veteran rocker couldn’t attend the opening event as he was on his honeymoon.
Mr Wood and his new wife Sally are patrons of the Ben Kinsella trust - a charity set up to tackle knife crime in the wake of Ben’s brutal murder in 2008.
Last September, the Kinsella family launched the powerful exhibition, designed to help steer kids away from knife and gang crime, as a tribute to the murdered teenager.
So far it has only been open to school and youth groups, with more than 1,100 children visiting.
But from February 18 to 22 people of all ages will be welcome, free of charge, thanks to cash from the rock and roll superstar - although the newly weds won’t be able to visit themselves.
Ben’s sister and former Eastenders actress Brooke Kinsella, said: “We are delighted to have Ronnie and Sally Wood on board as patrons of The Ben Kinsella Trust and can’t thank them enough for their generous donation which has allowed us to open up the exhibition to the residents of Islington.
“This will allow so many more people to be a part of Ben’s legacy.”
Abby Kegg, manager of trust, said: “I’m not sure exactly how they became interested in the exhibition - hopefully we will find out on their return.
“But Sally got in touch with Brooke and offered the donation it went from there.
“We wish the them all the best for their honeymoon, and hopefully they’ll be able to come to one of the events when they get back.”
The interactive exhibition, based in Fonthill road, Finsbury Park, includes actors, films and comic strips all focusing on the consequences of knife crime.
