Bad Arsenal attendances are bad for business at Holloway Road’s Piebury Corner.
The Arsenal-themed pie deli had 40 left over after the Gunners’ terrible 2-1 defeat to Ostersunds on Thursday last week – in which the Emirates Stadium was half-empty.
Thankfully, owners Nicky and Paul Campbell have a great strategy for when this happens. They give the pies to the Pilion Trust, a Holloway charity that helps vulnerable people.
Paul said: “It was a really poor attendance. We always have pies ready for after the match, but obviously hardly anyone was there so we had 40 left over. They went straight to the Pilion Trust – nothing gets wasted with us.”
And the partnership stretches back years: “When we started in 2011, Piebury was a stall in our front garden [in Gillespie Road]. There was an Arsenal game where the weather was really bad and we had a load of leftover pies.
“Nicky found the Pilion Trust and since then we’ve had a pretty good relationship with them.”
Staff at Piebury Corner’s Caledonian Road shop in King’s Cross also give leftover pies to homeless people at the end of the day.
