People who make life in Islington better for everyone – from those who inspire youngsters to brave pensioners tackling knife wielding thugs – will be honoured at special award ceremony.

Nominations for the Mayor’s Civic Awards 2014 opened on Monday to find and reward residents who go that extra mile for the fellow man or woman, including the special Ben Kinsella award, named after the tragic knife victim, for particularly positive youngsters.

Last year’s gala ceremony at the Isington Assembly Hall, in Upper Street, featured unsung community heroes including a young man who saved a stranger’s life, a traffic warden who tackled a mugger, a charitable publican and a shopkeeper who fought off a robber before being stabbed.

All nominations must be in by January 24, 2014.
