A construction worker suffered minor burns to his hands after trying to tackle a small fire.

In the event, four fire engines and 21 firefighters were called to the Brookfield Multiplex site in Featherstone Street, near Old Street, at 1pm yesterday.

Firefigher Sam Kazmanli, who was at the scene, said: “Around 350 workers evacuated the site before the Brigade was called. Please leave firefighting to the professionals. Get out, stay out and call 999.”

The fire took about 45 minutes to control. The cause is under investigation.
