Artworks by prisoners with mental health problems have gone on show at one of the borough’s top gallery spaces.
An exhibition of work by vulnerable inmates at Pentonville Prison in Caledonian Road, Holloway, is running at Kings Place in York Way, King’s Cross, until November 17.
Mary O’Donnell, service manager at the prison, said: “If you have not been in prison, be under no illusions – Pentonville, with 1200 prisoners and 40 new admissions a night, is a tough place to be.
“Physical health problems, drug and alcohol problems, severe mental health problems, depression, challenging behaviour, self harm and intent to commit suicide are the norm.
“The project has given vulnerable and challenging people the opportunity to re-think how they are managing their lives and, for some, an actual reason for living.”
