Per Mertesacker has given a number of young fans with Down’s syndrome a day to remember as part of Arsenal in the Community’s excellent work.
The Gunners captain met up with the Arsenal Down’s Syndrome Football group, after enjoying the Emirates’ award-winning sensory room.
The club’s big friendly German, Mertesacker, happily met the visitors after the game, spending time with them as he took them pitch-side for a taste of what the players experience.
The World Cup winner replied to a tweet from Arsenal Community saying: “Great to meet you all!”
Youngsters from the Arsenal Down’s Syndrome programme enjoyed the Watford game from the views of the inclusive sensory room as the room hosted guests including Crystal Palace foundation, the Watford FC Trust and the North London United initiative – who give weekly football sessions to young people with Down’s syndrome at the Arsenal Hub.
Mertesacker is one of the many players who willingly give up their time for Arsenal in the Community schemes.
